Patrick Haddad quoted in Crain's Detroit Business “Medical Ownership Spurs New Battles"

Kerr Russell Member Patrick Haddad is quoted in the Crain’s Detroit article published on September 17, 2017 “Medical Ownership Spurs New Battles” by Jay Greene. Mr. Greene reviews concerns over ownership models of diagnostic centers, urgent care centers, and cosmetic medical spas in Southeast Michigan. The complete article can be viewed here.

Below is the excerpt from the article in which Patrick is quoted (corrections parenthetically notated in brackets):

However, various Michigan laws "prohibit a for-profit entity, either a corporation or a limited liability company, from practicing medicine or employing a physician to provide professional medical services," according to a 2014 opinion by the State Bar of Michigan Health Care Law Section.

The various laws clearly state that "only licensed physicians may own [medical practices] and [furnish] medical service[s] …," said Patrick Haddad, co-chair of the health law practice with Kerr Russell in Detroit. [Kerr] Russell represents the Michigan State Medical Society.

Haddad said the corporate practice of medicine doctrine is not unique to Michigan.
