Kerr Russell proud to sponsor Area Agency on Aging 1-B Annual Community Meeting May 11

Kerr Russell is pleased to sponsor the Area Agency on Aging 1-B Annual Community Meeting May 11. The luncheon begins with a reception at 11:30 am. The program, including awards, commences at 1 pm. The event will be held at Glen Oaks Country Club in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Kerr Russell members James Cambridge and Daniel Ferris will attend on behalf of the firm.

Established in 1974, the Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization with a 40+ year history of serving older adults and people with disabilities in southeast Michigan. They serve a six-county region that includes Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties. They are part of a national network of Area Agencies on Aging and a leader in aging services in southeast Michigan—setting the course in providing the services, innovations and advocacy needed to make sure a growing senior population has the resources and supports it will need.

James R. Cambridge has more than 30 years of experience in the areas of business law, finance, and real estate.  Jim is co-chairperson of the firm's Business and Corporate Law practice group, and leads the firm's US-China practice.  He is also a member of the firm's Executive Committee.

Jim's clients have included private and public companies in the manufacturing, finance, real estate, retail, service, technology and transportation industries. His clients have also included professional athletes, corporate CEOs and other high net worth individuals. Jim serves as counsel for a number of businesses and handles a variety of matters such as business formations, contracts, employment, lending relationships, restructurings, real estate, buying and selling businesses and resolving troubled business situations. Jim has considerable experience in advising closely-held businesses. Jim also has experience in advising US and foreign-based companies in establishing operations in both the US and abroad.  

Jim is a past Chairperson of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and also served as the Chairman of the Legislative Drafting Committee of business and tax lawyers that wrote the Michigan Limited Liability Company Act.

Jim is frequently honored for legal excellence by his clients and other attorneys. He has been admitted as a Fellow in the Michigan State Bar Foundation, in recognition of his professionalism and community service, and he received the Outstanding Business Lawyer Award from the State Bar of Michigan’s Business Law Section.  He is consistently listed in Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business; Who’s Who in American Law; and The Best Lawyers in America®, Woodward/White, Inc.  Jim has been noted as a “Michigan Super Lawyer” and being among “Detroit’s Best Lawyers” by Thomson Reuters; and is rated a “Top Lawyer” by dbusiness Magazine.  He has also been named among Michigan's "Leader's in the Law" by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.  Jim has achieved AV ranking from Martindale Hubbell, reflecting the highest standards of legal ability, professional ethics and integrity. 

A respected attorney and author, Jim lectures and publishes regularly on business law and planning.  He has written numerous articles and books, including the highly regarded Michigan Limited Liability Companies. Jim is also a contributing author to Advising Closely Held Businesses in Michigan.

Daniel J. Ferris feels privileged to be called upon to assist companies and individuals across a range of industries and with a wide variety of issues. He handles matters involving class action, commercial disputes, corporate law, employment law, insurance, licensing, litigation, products liability, and professional liability defense.  Dan represents automotive manufacturers and is a member of the Original Equipment Suppliers Association Young Leadership Council.  He also assists companies involved in the construction industry.  Additionally, Dan represents corporations and individuals involved in health care including dentists, hospitals, medical device manufacturers, and physicians.  He serves as Co-Chair of the Professional Liability & Health Care Section of Michigan Defense Trial Counsel.  He has particular experience in non-compete and sales representative contracts.  Dan has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” (no more than 2.5% of lawyers practicing in the State of Michigan receive this distinction).

Dan is passionate about education.  In addition to his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan, he completed a trial advocacy program at the Northwestern University School of Law.  Dan has served as an instructor at the University of Michigan and is an editor of a forthcoming edition of Michigan Law of Damages and Other Remedies, a treatise published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He is a member of Kerr Russell’s Continuing Legal Education Committee and has served as a judge for moot court competitions at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University Law Schools. Dan has also served as a “Barrister” in the American Inns of Court, which is an organization that promotes legal education. He has presented on topics relating to commercial litigation, health care, and legal research.

Dan is also passionate about civic service. He was first appointed and then elected to serve as a member of the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly, which is the final policy-making body of the State Bar. He is also a Fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation, which promotes increased access to and understanding of the legal system. Dan supports homeless youth as a member of the Covenant House Michigan Young Professionals Society. He additionally volunteers with Kerr Russell’s Giving Back program, has represented nonprofit corporations, and has represented clients on a pro bono basis.  Dan previously held a leadership position in a community service organization and has traveled to multiple sites around the United States to perform volunteer work.
