Practice Areas
Bio
As the daughter of a retired physician and the mother of a daughter studying advanced practice nursing, Cathy excels in the representation of healthcare professionals. Her experience includes representing healthcare professionals in the courtroom, in their contractual relationships with their employers, as well as in disputes with professional licensing boards.
Cathy had the benefit of being trained by top litigators in the firm, gaining early trial experience beginning in the 1990s. This included solo jury trials in both Federal and State Courts in the areas of employment discrimination (directed verdict) and medical malpractice (2 defense jury verdicts) before the age of 33. Cathy has gone on to manage more than 100 lawsuits from filing through resolution by either dismissal, settlement or trial.
In addition to medical malpractice expertise, Cathy also actively represents physicians and other licensed healthcare professionals in licensing matters. She cannot emphasize enough how important it is for healthcare professionals to seek early legal guidance when faced with a potential licensing investigation.
With extensive knowledge of various medical specialties and the statutory framework for both medical malpractice litigation and licensing investigations, Cathy is in a distinguished position to advocate for her clients and achieve favorable outcomes. She is proficient in providing cost-effective representation in virtually all aspects of licensing and litigation disputes, including pre-suit investigations, discovery, compliance conferences, facilitation and trial. She was recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for 2022.
Cathy recognizes that health care today is necessarily intertwined with legal repercussions. Her goal is to manage and simplify that aspect of her clients’ practice so that they can devote their time where it should more appropriately be allocated: to patient care.
