Our Director of Marketing Roy Sexton visited Beyond Basics this morning and was in awe of the work they do to help children of all ages learn to read and to excel. Beyond Basics is a 501(c)(3) student-centered, literacy non-profit, serving students in Detroit public schools since 2002.
They partner with principals and schools to bring students to literacy by providing reading, tutoring, and supplemental programs – writing, art, mentoring, and partnerships – throughout the school day for students in grades Pre-K through 12. In addition to providing these services, they provide free books to every student and parent that enters our classroom. Javier Reed, their outreach director, posted on LinkedIn:
“Today, I had the pleasure of hosting Roy Sexton of Kerr Russell on a school tour to a couple of the schools Beyond Basics works in. Roy and I visited our Mumford High, Mumford Academy, and Burton International location. During the tour, he was able to see Reading Tutoring in action, and I was able to introduce him to our amazing Program Managers & Tutors, but most importantly, our students! Thanks again for coming by. Roy, it was truly an honor. I look forward to connecting soon. Note: If you’d like to join me on a tour, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. See you soon!”
Definitely take him up on his offer! More info about the program here.
